Millions of Americans face poverty in retirement

by Kate Randall Americans are reaching retirement age in worse financial shape than the prior generation for the first time since the 1950s. According to an analysis published Saturday by the Wall Street Journal, those who should be entering their “golden years” have seen their median incomes stagnate and even decrease, reversing the pattern that had prevailed since the post-World War II Truman administration. Those approaching retirement have dwindling resources, in many cases because they have had to pay off their children’s college loans or take from savings to care for aging parents. Social Security and retirement fund receipts have not risen in years, and 401(k) retirement funds will bring in a median income of less than $8,000 a year for a household of two. The reality is that instead of retiring, many older Americans will be forced to remain in their jobs after age 70 or take jobs for which they are overqualified to supplement their meager retir

Jeremy Corbyn says future Labour government would recognize Palestine as state

“ I think there has to be a recognition of the rights of the Palestinian people to their own state, which we as a Labour Party said we would recognize in government as a full state as part of the United Nations.” – Jeremy Corbyn by Whitney Webb The leader of the U.K. Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, officially announced on Friday that the U.K. would recognize Palestine as a state under a future Labour government. Corbyn, speaking in Jordan during his first trip to the region since becoming party leader in 2015, stated that the recognition of a Palestinian state would be aimed at achieving “ a genuine two-state solution ” that he would seek to tackle “ very early on ” were Labour to emerge victorious in the U.K.’s next general election in 2022. “ I think there has to be a recognition of the rights of the Palestinian people to their own state, which we as a Labour Party said we would recognize in government as a full state as part of the United Nations, ” Cor

Almost 60% 'dissatisfied': Emmanuel Macron's approval ratings continue to fall

After entering office over a year ago, French President Emmanuel Macron’s approval ratings are on a downwards trajectory, with researchers attributing his drop in support to numerous policies and developments. A poll conducted by the Institute of Opinion and Marketing Studies in France and Abroad (IFOP) yielded a 58 percent domestic disapproval rating of Macron – the highest level it’s ever been at since he was elected in May 2017. The report, which was publicly released on Monday and used data gathered from June 15 to June 23, also found his approval rating to have fallen by one point for the second consecutive month, to 40 percent. Macron’s approval rating worsened particularly amongst those aged 65 and over, falling by 8 percent in the space of a month, to just 38 percent. Researchers said recent social embarrassments, such as his seemingly arrogant remarks to a student, which went viral, have not significantly cost him support, but have “ rein

Turkey’s president Erdogan wins re-election

The Turkey election for both President, as well as all the seats of parliament, took place on Sunday. In what was expected to be a tight election – with some even speculating there would be a second round of voting in the race for President – it now seems that the President will remain the same but face some renewed opposition in parliament. Here is what some of this could mean for Turkish politics going forward: https://www.mintpressnews.com/erdogan-wins-turkey/244658/ Read also: Turkey: a case where neoliberalism has literally jailed the Left

The real E CORPs seek complete control of global food supply

Who controls the food supply controls the people; who controls the energy can control whole continents; who controls money can control the world globinfo freexchange In the famous TV series, Mr. Robot, E Corp (which the central character, Elliot Alderson, perceives as Evil Corp), is an extremely powerful company that controls societies through consumer debt. Yet, in the real world, a couple of mega multinationals could be proved even more ruthless. In another interesting report, James Corbett exposes the ultimate goal behind the merge of two of the biggest corporations in the food, medicine and agricultural sector. These are the real ECORPs: What does a pharmaceutical giant have to gain from buying out and merging with an agrichemical giant, especially one that carries as much baggage as Monsanto? If the connection between these corporate behemoths seems tenuous, then perhaps the key to understanding it is presented in that 1995 quote from fo

Trump’s military drops a bomb every 12 minutes, and no one is talking about it

by Lee Camp We live in a state of perpetual war, and we never feel it. While you get your gelato at the hip place where they put those cute little mint leaves on the side, someone is being bombed in your name. While you argue with the 17-year-old at the movie theater who gave you a small popcorn when you paid for a large, someone is being obliterated in your name. While we sleep and eat and make love and shield our eyes on a sunny day, someone’s home, family, life and body are being blown into a thousand pieces in our names. Once every 12 minutes. The United States military drops an explosive with a strength you can hardly comprehend once every 12 minutes. And that’s odd, because we’re technically at war with—let me think—zero countries. So that should mean zero bombs are being dropped, right? Hell no! You’ve made the common mistake of confusing our world with some sort of rational, cogent world in which our military-industrial complex is under con

Currency war can end global US dollar dominance & those who own gold have power

The world is facing a currency war and the only hedge against the crash of the US dollar is real gold, a precious metal analyst has told RT. With geopolitical power shifting from West to East, US dominance may be ending. The world is facing a currency war and the only hedge against the crash of the US dollar is real gold, a precious metal analyst has told RT. With geopolitical power shifting from West to East, US dominance may be ending. “ Central banks moved their gold because they felt threatened by the USSR and saw the USA as their natural ally. The fact that central banks are repatriating their gold shows that this has changed. It also implies that they don’t see Russia as a bigger threat than the USA any longer. Europe stands in the center of this geopolitical power shift and some countries obviously believe it’s wise to store the gold in their home countries, ” he told RT. The world has been living in crisis since 2008, while a currency war star

We may be the only intelligent life out there, study finds

If intelligent life is so likely to exist elsewhere in the universe, why haven’t we found it? Well, the chances of us coming across extraterrestrials are not looking good, according to a new study. Scientists from the Future of Humanity Institute at Oxford University have revealed that we are probably the only advanced civilization out there, although they can’t say for sure. The team came to their conclusion after realizing that Fermi’s paradox and its supporting theories are somewhat flawed. The paradox is the conflict between the probability that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe and the lack of evidence of such. This is linked to other theories like the Drake equation, which says that even if the probability of life elsewhere is small, because of the vast size of the universe, it is possible that there are a large number of civilizations somewhere out there. The Oxford researchers took another look at the Drake equation and found how

Al-Nusra terrorists prepare provocations in Syria’s Idlib

Militants from Al-Nusra Front (now known as Tahrir al-Sham) are preparing provocations in Idlib province, northwestern Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said. The fighters shot staged videos, showing their “ active ‘restoration’ of civilian infrastructure, allegedly destroyed by Russian and Syrian air strikes, ” the Russian Reconciliation Center said, citing a phone call from Idlib province residents. The locals said that last Friday “ a film crew from the news agency of one of the Middle Eastern countries ” came to the province. Together with Al-Nusra terrorists, they also made fake videos of civilian evacuations to the Alhelal al-Ahmar Hospital. https://www.rt.com/newsline/430725-nusra-provocations-idlib-residents/
