In a rather unexpected timing, Bernie Sanders decided to drop nomination for the Democratic party leadership and clear the path for Joe Biden. Yet, strangely enough, he announced that he will stay on the ballot, in order to exercise more pressure and push the Democratic party further to the Left on key issues.

Before that, in another awkward moment during a TV interview, Bernie didn't hesitate to say publicly that Biden could beat Trump. It was a statement that surprised and even upset many progressives. Such a statement reveals that Bernie probably had already decided to drop nomination.
From a point of view, Bernie's decision to drop nomination in the midst of a pandemic crisis, looks rational. His campaign wouldn't be able to organize more massive rallies in order to inspire more voters and regain momentum prior to critical states with a strong progressive, grassroots potential.
Despite the fact that - according to latest info circulated in corporate media - Biden vowed to choose a woman as his running mate, such a scenario presents certain difficulties because of the recent sexual assault accusations against him.
Under these circumstances and considering Bernie's behaviour, we must not exclude yet as "impossible" a scenario according to which, Biden has already offered the VP position to Sanders. And it could be done under the tolerance of the DNC establishment.
It doesn't sound too crazy. The DNC knows it (and almost everybody else knows it), that Biden has no chance against Trump. His only chance is to make the vast majority of the progressive voters to vote for him, as they will probably choose not to vote, or, choose a third party. And probably the only way to do that, is to try to lure them by offering Sanders the Vice Presidency.
Under these circumstances, Biden could beat Trump. And then, according to a second scenario, Biden could be forced to resign due to certain problems (everybody knows he suffers from dementia), becoming unable to fulfill duties. So, here is a chance to see Bernie Sanders becoming the next US president.
It's a long shot. Progressives should not bet heavily on it. They should focus on growing the movement away from the corrupted DNC instead.
Yet, there is another alternative scenario, which is even more difficult to become true. The DNC uses Biden, who, miraculously manages to beat Trump. Then, Biden resigns and a DNC most beloved puppet takes his place out of nowhere ...

ReplyDeleteVery accurate the link by the Anonymous user. The naivete this blog exhibited towards Sanders always surprised me. Magazines such us the World Socialist Web Site had correctly described and exposed him for what he is: a classic case of a leftist relief valve.
