Everything
points to the fact that Germany seeks full independence from the US
domination, establishing its own hegemony in Europe.
From RT:
The
European Commission chief has called for the creation of an “EU
joint army” that would 'react credibly' to any external threat
and defend the bloc’s “values.” While the UK and France are
wary it could undermine NATO, Germany has backed the idea.
Juncker’s
proposal has been supported in Germany, where last month Defense
Minister Ursula von der Leyen also spoke of an EU army, calling it
the main goal for the bloc. [...] According to Hans-Peter Bartels,
the chairman of the Defense Committee of the Bundestag, “the
past 10 years have added little to Europe's defense. It needs a
boost.”
...
Junker’s idea of an EU Army is a concern for some of the bloc’s
members, particularly France and the UK. They are wary of granting
a bigger military role to the EU as it could undermine NATO.
On
Saturday, the German newspaper Der Spiegel revealed that Berlin
had slammed comments by NATO European Commander General Philip
Breedlove on Ukraine as “dangerous propaganda,” which put the
West at risk of losing credibility.

It is more
than obvious that the relation between the two allies is getting
worse for a number of reasons:
The system by BRICS is almost
ready and gives the alternative to the neoliberal catastrophe.
Maybe it's time for PIIGS to join BRICS, but this would require
radical changes in the political scene of the European periphery.
Greece took a step and Spain will probably follow soon. Why not
the rest? Certainly, the US deep-state will fiercely fight such a
perspective, mostly because it would mark the Sino-Russian
expansion to traditionally Westernized territories, but also,
because it would be received, mostly by the neocons, as a threat
through the Russian geopolitical expansion. This explains partly
the pressure by the US, mostly to the Germans, to loose the rope
around Greece's neck.
