All the right progressives are running for 2020 ... but they need a really smart strategy to have a chance against the neoliberal beast
More
than a year ago we wrote
that the 2016 electoral process in the US was particularly useful
because it highlighted many interesting unprecedented aspects. One of
them, is that you don't need the mainstream media to promote you.
Especially the young Americans discovered and promoted Bernie Sanders
through the independent and social media on the Internet. Another
aspect, is that you don't need big money to support you. These new
conditions could be proven valuable towards the creation of a third
political movement, coming straight from the people, which could
seriously challenge the current corrupted political establishment.
We also
wrote that we can think at least four progressives that should join
forces to lead such a political movement right now: Jill Stein,
Bernie Sanders, Tulsi Gabbard, Elizabeth Warren.
Three of
them already revealed their intention to run for the 2020 US
presidency. Assuming that the Greens won't change leadership, Jill
Stein will join the group.
All four
should be unconditionally devoted at least to the following:
- Free
health care and education, re-build the social state
-
Definitely anti-war, anti-intervention
-
Definitely anti-Wall Street
-
Pro-environmental
-
Pro-workers
All four
exhibit hopeful signs with their political behavior so far towards
such policies that could literally change radically the course of the
American society for the benefit of the majority, against the elites.
Yet,
apart from the fact that most of them don't seem to be fully aligned
with all the above political positions, the three of the Democratic
camp have chosen to run separately for the presidency. And this
shows, at least at first glance, a lack of minimum co-ordination
among the non-corporate, progressive Democrats who have the ambition
to transform the party.
Furthermore,
they seem to be ignoring Jill Stein and the Greens, despite that one
key proposition (mostly promoted by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez), the
Green New Deal, is coming straight from the political manifesto of
the Green Party. We expect that the progressives inside the
Democratic Party will have to face a fierce opposition and another
dirty war by the media and the corporate Democrats towards 2020. This
means that, in the end, many young American voters may turn to the
Greens as the only alternative. Therefore, Jill Stein should be part
of the progressive forces that aim to transform the American society
by beating the neoliberal beast.
It seems
that the establishment press already started some smear operations,
mostly against Bernie Sanders and Tulsi Gabbard. Apparently,
Elizabeth Warren is considered to be closer to the establishment
positions and therefore could be 'handled' easier, while Jill Stein
is not considered a serious threat, at least for now.
On the
other hand, all these could be proved a smart strategy designed by
the progressive camp. The separate nominations for the presidency by
Sanders, Gabbard and Warren, could be proved a significant advantage.
That's because, as we know, the corporate lobbyists have plenty of
money to support a plethora of nominations from the establishment of
the Democratic Party.
Yet,
when the DNC will rig the primaries again, the only option for the
progressives will be to build a third political party and join forces
with the Greens.
With
another, bigger anti-progressive war being exposed, especially the
young Americans will turn massively to the third party. And this
would be the biggest threat against the neoliberal beast. Too good to
be true? We shall see ...
