Η Google καταγράφει την τοποθεσία μας ακόμη και όταν το απαγορεύουμε

Έρευνα του Associated Press αποκάλυψε ότι υπηρεσίες της Google για Android και iPhone συνεχίζουν να καταγράφουν τις κινήσεις μας ακόμη και αν έχουμε ζητήσει ρητά να μην το κάνουν, μέσω των σχετικών ρυθμίσεων.

Ερευνητές στο πανεπιστήμιο του Πρίνστον επιβεβαίωσαν το συμπέρασμα για λογαριασμό του AP.

Παρά το γεγονός ότι οι εφαρμογές της Google ζητούν άδεια για να καταγράψουν τη θέση μας και θεωρητικά μας επιτρέπουν να σβήσουμε τα ίχνη μας, κλείνοντας την επιλογή Location History, στην πραγματικότητα συνεχίζουν να καταγράφουν ορισμένα στοιχεία για τη θέση μας.

Παραδείγματός χάριν η Google αποθηκεύει το που βρισκόμαστε κάθε φορά που ανοίγουμε την εφαρμογή για τους χάρτες στο κινητό μας. Το ίδιο συμβαίνει και με τις αυτόματες ανανεώσεις για τον Καιρό που προσφέρει στα Android αλλά και με πολλές ακόμη εφαρμογές που αποθηκεύουν την τοποθεσία μας στο λογαριασμό μας της Google.

Απαντώντας στην αποκάλυψη του AP η Google ανέφερε ότι «υπάρχουν πολλοί τρόποι με τους οποίους η εταιρεία μπορεί να χρησιμοποιήσει την τοποθεσία μας για να βελτιώσει τις υπηρεσίες της» και συμπλήρωσε ότι «παρέχει σαφείς περιγραφές αυτών των εργαλείων και ισχυρό έλεγχο ώστε οι άνθρωποι να μπορούν να τα κλείσουν και να σβήσουν το ιστορικό οποιαδήποτε στιγμή».

Όπως εξηγούσε όμως η εφημερίδα Guardian οι χρήστες θα πρέπει να κλείσουν μια άλλη λειτουργία (web and app activity) η οποία δεν αναφέρει πουθενά ότι καταγράφει την τοποθεσία τους.
