Mission accomplished: US bloody imperialists put foot on Syria for good

After more than six years of unimaginable catastrophe that killed thousands, created millions of refugees and internally displaced, the Syrian war is still in process, yet, the most ruthless force seems to be achieving its primary target.

As the TeleSur reported:

U.S.-backed Kurdish forces in Syria — who are among Washington's most important and powerful regional allies — told Reuters Thursday that the U.S. military will remain in northern Syria “for decades to come.”

A spokesman from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of militias headed by the Kurdish YPG, Talal Silo, told Reuters that the the United States has a "strategic interest" in the area, and that U.S. forces will be staying there long after the Islamic state group might be defeated.

[...]

The U.S. military has funded the SDF extensively, also supporting them with air strikes, artillery, and special forces on the ground. It was in March when the then-new U.S. administration of President Donald Trump began distributing arms to the YPG, ahead of their assault in Raqqa. When probed about their long-term strategy, Col. Ryan Dillon, another spokesman for the coalition, deferred Reuters to the U.S. Pentagon, adding that there is “still a lot of fighting to do, even after ISIS has been defeated in Raqqa". Eric Pahon, a Pentagon spokesman, in turn, stated, “The Department of Defense does not discuss timelines for future operations. However we remain committed to the destruction of ISIS and preventing its return.”

The head of the YPG revealed last month that the United States has established seven military bases in areas of northern Syria that are controlled by the YPG or SDF, including a major air base near Kobani, which borders Turkey.

Despite the chaos by losing control over various extremist groups trained by CIA, it appears that the US achieves its primary target for permanent military presence in northern Syria. The Nobel Peace Prize(!) holder and proxy-wars expert, Barack Obama, has set the scene for Donald Trump. The US imperialists have learned from the disastrous Iraq war and decided to act "smarter" this time. They reached goal through a few airstrikes and minimum loses, just by training and arming different militant groups. The only problem is that it took longer. By the way, no one could blame them for direct invasion this time.

Syrian war shows emphatically how ruthless the US imperialists are. They won't give up their 'investments' in the Middle East, whatever it takes. And they have 'invested' for decades, especially in two sides, which have enormous ideological differences. On the one hand, the Kurdish communities, organized upon the most progressive ideas in the Middle East. On the other, the Saudis, the most brutal theocratic regime in the region. This fact depicts perfectly that the US imperialists will support anyone - no matter how democratic or tyrannic - who will help them to fulfill their goals.

Despite the geopolitical games through various pipelines, the ultimate plan of the US in the region was to create a continuous surveillance zone that would expand from the Iranian borders through north Iraq and Syria, up to the eastern Mediterranean coast. It appears that mission accomplished.

Through this zone, the US will attempt to:

  • Control all key roads of the pipelines from Gulf States to the north, and therefore, the main energy paths to Europe.

  • Put barriers against the normal functioning of the Syria-Russia-Iran-Hezbollah alliance in various levels.

  • Become a significant and 'annoying' power of tight scrutiny against the Russian presence in the east Mediterranean with the prospect to prevent the expansion of Russian permanent naval and other military bases.

  • Restrict further Sino-Russian economic expansion in the region.

With the ongoing chaos in Middle East, no one can tell to what extent the US will succeed on these goals, but the first key step is completed. Furthermore, there is another big question mark that seems to trouble the US imperialists: Turkey.

It appears that the relationship of the US with this strategic ally and one of the largest NATO armies becomes increasingly problematic. The rapid deterioration of the relations between the US and Turkey coincided with the beginning of the Syrian chaos, probably because Erdogan completely ignored the US interests in the region, by trying to promote his own agenda.

Turkey exploited the Syrian chaos and tried to crush Kurdish resistance. One of the reasons that supported ISIS was to use it against the Kurds. It is a sub-proxy war by Turkey in the area according to its own agenda. The US is probably not very happy with that because it wanted to use ISIS in full force against Assad and considers Kurds as allies.

Things got even worse last month. As Bloomberg reported:

Turkey’s state-run news agency published U.S. base locations in northern Syria, a move that threatens to deepen distrust between the two allies by exposing American soldiers on the front lines of the fight against Islamic State.

In reports published in both Turkish and English on Tuesday, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency provided detailed information about 10 U.S. bases in northern Syria, including troop counts and a map of the U.S. force presence in the Turkish version. The reports said that the military outposts are “usually hidden for security reasons, making it hard to be detected.” It said they were located “in the terrorist PKK/PYD-held Syrian territories,” a reference to Kurdish groups that Turkey’s government considers terrorist organizations.

Despite a tight military alliance dating back to the Cold War, Turkey and the U.S. have been at odds for years now over the U.S. backing of Kurdish fighters in Syria who are affiliated with separatist movements inside Turkey. The Turkish government probably leaked U.S. troop locations to Anadolu as retaliation, according to Aaron Stein, a fellow at the Atlantic Council in Washington.

Despite fulfilling their primary target, everything shows that the US imperialists will not have an easy job in the chaotic Middle East puzzle.

A year after the coup against Dilma Rousseff, slavery returns officially in Brazil

Speaking to Tariq Ali, Alfredo Saad Filho, Professor of Political Economy, SOAS, describes the situation in Brazil nearly one year after the coup to remove former President Dilma Rousseff from office, revealing three key targets for which the neoliberal regime had staged this coup.

As he pointed out:

He [Michel Temer] is the most unpopular president in recorded history in Brazil. He has nothing to show for himself except survival, but for one thing. He has managed to implement the program of the coup. And the program of the coup was, first of all, change the oil exploration law to weaken Petrobras, the state oil company and allow transnational companies to exploit oil in Brazil.

They have also changed labor law. Labor law has been essentially abolished to the point that the ILO [International Labour Organization] and trade unions complain that currently, the law is essentially legalizes slavery. It is possible to have slaves in Brazil today in legal terms because the workers have been left bereft of almost any form of protection.

And the government has a third commitment, which is a change in social security law and pensions, to restrict pensions and cut the rights of workers.

This is what they wanted to achieve by removing Dilma Rousseff and the PT [Workers' Party] from office, and they are doing it.

Filho also said that Lula da Silva, the predecessor of Rousseff in the presidency and the PT party, is still the most popular politician in Brazil, despite the media attacks. He also claimed that the accusations against him were staged to get him out of the political game for good.

In July, the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) reported that:

The decision by Brazil’s corruption-riddled parliament to eliminate a swathe of protections in the country’s labour laws will impoverish millions of people and leave workers completely at the mercy of employers who will have unilateral power to set wages, holiday entitlements, working hours and bonuses.

[...]

Sharan Burrow, ITUC General Secretary, said, “This unprecedented dismantling of labour law is a recipe for corporate greed, with a small group of powerful oligarchs who want to turn back the clock to Brazil’s feudal past set to reap huge profits at the expense of ordinary working families. These same industrialists were the cheerleaders for the illegitimate ouster of President Dilma. They are the main beneficiaries of expected cuts to pension entitlements and of the 20-year austerity law, which deprives Brazil’s poor of social security, health and decent education.

[...]

Brazil’s most popular politician, former President Lula Da Silva, has meanwhile been given a 9½ year prison sentence by populist judge Sergio Moro, despite the lack of any real evidence to justify the judgement. Moro is a frequent guest on the Globo media conglomerate, which is owned by the Marinho family, one of the country’s richest families with combined wealth of over USD 10bn.

As described previously, the constitutional coup against Dilma Rousseff in Brazil, as well as, the usual actions of the Right opposition in Venezuela against Nicolás Maduro with the help of the US finger, are far more obvious.

The special weight of these countries, together with Argentina, in Latin America, is extremely important for the US imperialism to regain ground in the global geopolitical arena. Especially the last ten to fifteen years, each of them developed increasingly autonomous policies away from the US close custody, under Leftist governments, and this was something that alarmed the US imperialism components.

Brazil appears to be the most important among the three, not only due to its size, but also as a member of the BRICS, the team of fast growing economies who threaten the US and generally the Western global dominance. The constitutional coup against Rousseff was rather a sloppy action and reveals the anxiety of the US establishment to regain control through puppet regimes. This is a well-known situation from the past through which the establishment attempts to secure absolute dominance in the US backyard.

It appears that after Greece, Brazil is becoming a champion in entering rapidly the neo-feudal era through the violent termination of Democracy by the neoliberal regime.

US-backed Kurdish YPG reveals: US military to stay in Syria ‘for decades’

The United States has been funding and supporting the group for months, due to “strategic interests” in the region, a spokesperson revealed.

"They have a strategy policy for decades to come. There will be military, economic and political agreements in the long term between the leadership of the northern areas (of Syria) ... and the U.S. administration," Silo said.

The U.S. military has funded the SDF extensively, also supporting them with air strikes, artillery, and special forces on the ground. It was in March when the then-new U.S. administration of President Donald Trump began distributing arms to the YPG, ahead of their assault in Raqqa.

The head of the YPG revealed last month that the United States has established seven military bases in areas of northern Syria that are controlled by the YPG or SDF, including a major air base near Kobani, which borders Turkey.

In the beginning, American support was secret,” Alan Hassan, a Kurd in northeastern Syria's Qamishli, told The New York Times of the group’s affiliations back in May. “Now it is public. The relationship has changed from undeclared to declared.

Regional demonstrations show support for Venezuela

Pro-Venezualan rallies have been held in Panama and Argentina during a tour by the U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence. Organizers wanted to show their opposition to the U.S. President Donald Trump's recent comments that he would not rule out the option of military intervention.

Venezuela’s Constituent Assembly assumes legislative functions

The opposition-led National Assembly will not be dissolved, according to National Constituent Assembly authorities.

Venezuela's National Constituent Assembly, ANC, has assumed by decree some of the functions of the country's National Assembly, as it continues to be in contempt.

The National Assembly, which is led by the right-wing opposition, hasn't been dissolved and its members can resume their activities, said ANC President Delcy Rodriguez. She added that opposition leaders ignored their call to attend the session to establish the powers of the ANC voted for by millions of Venezuelans in open and free elections. "The Legislative Power has not been dissolved, as they want to portray in national and international media," Rodriguez said.

ANC First Vice President Elvis Amoroso read the decree in which the assembly "assumes the powers to legislate on matters directly aimed at ensuring the preservation of peace, security, sovereignty, the socioeconomic and financial system, the means of the state and the rights of the Venezuelans."

"If it were dissolved, we would not be making a decree in which only certain functions are assumed," ANC member Diosdado Cabello said. "They can continue to meet and comment as the National Assembly. What we can't allow is that a National Assembly paralyzes the state."

Cabello recalled that the legislative body has been in contempt since swearing in lawmakers whose elections were under investigation for irregularities. The politician said he believes this action destroys the allegations made by the U.S. government that Venezuela is a "failed state."

The ANC said that the opposition had violated Article 349 of the Constitution, which states the authority of that institution.

Right-wing extremists condemned in Charlottesville, funded and armed in Ukraine and Syria

Having backed a right-wing coup in the Ukraine and right-wing terror groups disguised as “moderate rebels” in Syria, U.S. leaders now confront rising right-wing terror at home. They duly condemn it, but seem blind both to their own hypocrisy and to the domestic reverberations of their cynical foreign policies.

by Whitney Webb

Part 4 - Glorifying foreign extremists not without consequences

The reason U.S. politicians consistently support fascism and right-wing extremism abroad, but not in the U.S., is clear. While supporting such groups domestically is a surefire way to ruin one’s political career, supporting these same types of groups in far-off places is a politically safe tool for projecting the U.S.’ geopolitical will abroad.

As former CIA Officer John Stockwell noted in his book, The Praetorian Guard, “stirring up deadly ethnic and racial strife has been a standard technique used by the CIA” for decades in covert destabilization operations.

But the glorification and support of right-wing violence abroad is not without its consequences. Legitimizing such ideologies – whether in Ukraine, Syria, or elsewhere around the globe – serves to justify them here at home.

While many on both the left and right cite Trump’s election as having “emboldened” these groups domestically, decades of U.S. foreign policy have in fact done much of the emboldening.

Though many of the aforementioned U.S. politicians would disagree, fascism and right-wing extremism do not suddenly shift from being acceptable to reprehensible once they cross the U.S. Border.

ExxonMobil, Kochs, Israel pushing Washington to partition Iraq and Syria

The currently stateless Kurds sit astride the Iraq-Syria border on land blessed/cursed with oil, other resources, and geopolitical significance. Is it any wonder that mega-corporations and their client states are looking to use the Kurds, stoke conflict, and exploit the situation?

by Whitney Webb

Part 5 - Why the sudden change of heart?

ExxonMobil once again emerges as a key player — not surprisingly, given that current Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was Exxon’s CEO when the unilateral contract with the Kurds was forged. Tillerson, however, is not the only former ExxonMobil employee with ties to the Trump administration. Ali Khedery — a former Pentagon official who served in the U.S. coalition authority in Iraq, and a former ExxonMobil executive — has repeatedly promoted the division of Iraq.

Khedery is also the founder of Dragoman Ventures, a firm connected to the Committee to Destroy ISIS, which has been instrumental in bringing about the Trump administration’s change of opinion regarding Iraq’s partition. The Committee’s executive director, Sam Patten, also shares deep connections to members of Trump’s campaign and transition teams, as well as to certain Iraqi oligarchs suspected of having ties to U.S. intelligence and insurgent elements in Iraq.

Nor is oil the only resource that has swayed the Trump administration and its corporate allies to view partition favorably. Iraq’s Anbar province was recently found to contain nearly a tenth of the world’s total deposits of phosphates, a key ingredient in the production of nitrogen fertilizer. Now — with control of more than 70 percent of the world’s phosphate supply, and with markets reaching a point where demand is beginning to outstrip supply — the world’s largest producer of nitrogen fertilizer is eager for access to Anbar province.

That company, Koch Fertilizer Inc., is owned by the infamous Koch Brothers. Fully one-third of Trump’s entire transition team had ties to Koch Industries.

Donald Trump in rescue of the DNC establishment!

Recent Trump's back and forth against clear condemnation of racist violence on the context of the horrible incident in Charlottesville, proved that he is completely incapable of leaving behind, or at least smoothing, his dangerous far-right rhetoric and positions. Trump already finds himself in a difficult position as he sees his popularity in free fall, and the only way to maintain his hard core of white nationalist voters, is to keep the profile of the 'hothead cowboy', even if he has to dangerously provoke North Korea.

On the other side, the neoliberal establishment of the Democratic party appeared to be completely incapable to acknowledge responsibility for the shocking defeat in 2016 election. Almost everyone else was blamed apart from Hillary Clinton, or the DNC failed strategy: Bernie Sanders, Jill Stein, the Russians, the most progressive voters who didn't want to vote another corrupted and warmongering banking/corporate puppet like Clinton.

No matter what's happening around, the DNC establishment simply ignores the scream of the American society for a radical change down to the roots of the Party, away from the lobbyists and the super PACs. The Dems are in total denial. They can't even give a chance to someone that simply supported by Bernie Sanders, as has been proved by the election of Tom Perez as the chair of the DNC, early this year. Perez defeated Keith Ellison, who was supported by progressives within the party, including Sanders and Massachusetts Senator, Elizabeth Warren.

Indeed, the Democrats seem to promote another establishment puppet for 2020, instead of seeking a true, radical change for the Democratic Party. As Mintpress News reports:

Kamala Harris, a career prosecutor who served as California’s attorney general and is now a United States senator, is seen by liberals as the Democratic Party new “rising star”. Democrats are already touting the possibility of a 2020 presidential run, and any inkling of criticism, regardless of how genuine, faces a backlash from influential people in the political and media arena.

Critics are attacked on multiple levels. First, defenders argue Harris is a cog working within a larger unjust machine. Condemning her political decisions is frivolous because “she’s doing her job.” They also argue critics are “purists” in search of a politician without imperfections. This assertion, while undoubtedly pretentious, is intended to malign leftists as immature and unable to understand the dirty realities of politics.

The third component of attacks involves malicious misrepresentation, a claim that critics reject Harris because she is a woman, or more specifically, a black woman. By weaponizing neoliberal identity politics, even the whitest liberals freely manipulate the wider discourse on race and gender in order to shape it into their favor.

Trump's behavior becomes the perfect tool in the hands of the DNC establishment to demonize the most progressive voters and force them to compromise with a neoliberal candidate for the 2020 election. People around the Democratic party have gone as far as equalizing the alternative right with the -now called - alternative left, in terms of violence.

This was a tactic that was excessively implemented in Greece, where after the burst of the crisis, the then political establishment which bankrupted the country, with the help of the mainstream media, was equalizing the 'radical left' with the Golden Dawn neo-nazis, in order to prevent voters to vote for the then unpredictable, rising political power, the leftist SYRIZA.

Indeed, as Mintpress News also reports:

Liberal and centrist Democrats did not necessarily coin the label “alt-left,” however, in recent months, the term was popularized by them. It was deployed against anyone on the left who challenged their politics, especially those perceived as supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders or members of the Democratic Socialists of America.

But in a recent press conference, President Donald Trump blamed “both sides” for violence in Charlottesville on August 12. He invoked the “alt-left,” a term largely unknown to the wider public and establishment press, and promoted a false equivalency in remarks rife with apologism for neo-Nazis. Republican politicians from Speaker Paul Ryan to Senator Marco Rubio condemned Trump for refusing to assign all of the blame to white supremacy groups. And, in the span of seconds, Trump made a label liberals and Democrats had reflexively employed toxic.

[...]

The Washington Post’s Alex Horton and Dave Weigel produced a piece attempting to define the genesis of the “alt-left” label. Horton and Weigel acknowledged the term was used by “some right-wing websites, commentators and Fox News personalities” to describe “a violent segment of left-wing activists — the alt-left.” Both ignored its prevalent use by Clinton Democrats and other centrists and liberals fed up with Sanders supporters and their “purism.”

Several prominent Democrats, who see themselves as a part of #TheResistance, suggested progressive critiques of identity politics and demands from the left were the product of an “alt-left” that increasingly seems to be converging with the worst elements of the “alt-right” (the term for far right groups that includes white nationalists).

[...]

There simply can be no equivalency between the “alt-right” and the “alt-left.” Nor is the “alt-left” responsible for any threat the rise of the “alt-right” may pose to the country. It is neo-Nazis and neo-Nazis alone, who are responsible for their acts, and any centrist or liberal Democrat, who equates their acts with the behavior of the “alt-left” or invokes the “alt-left” to marginalize dissent is cravenly attempting to stunt movements for social, economic, racial, and environmental justice, which threaten the Democratic Party establishment.

There is no doubt that the DNC establishment seeks to restore power without changing current status. Which means that it is completely devoted to its corporate donors who have been enormously benefited from the domination on the neoliberal ideology at the expense of the majority of the American citizens.

The hypocrites around DNC establishment demand from everyone to align with them in order to confront the 'scary monster', Donald Trump. While they openly condemn Trump's racism, they pray quietly for more far-right provocative behavior by him because this will give them more power to crush any truly progressive criticism against their routine functioning, dominated by these rich donors.

Most importantly, they seek to crush any prospect for a new, truly progressive and independent political movement under Bernie Sanders, away from the bipartisan dictatorship. Once Bernie will dare to make such an attempt, they will fiercely seek to finish him politically by using the known story: he will be considered responsible for breaking the unity of the Democratic Party and letting someone like Trump remain in power. Bernie knows it. That's why he rushed to endorse Hillary Clinton after his defeat in the primaries due to the dirty war from inside the DNC.

Just keep in mind that these hypocrites who condemn Trump's far-right behavior and actually blackmail everyone from the left in order to be aligned behind them, belong to the same syndicate which, under Obama administration, had overthrown a democratically elected government in Ukraine and brought the far-right nationalists and neo-nazis in power.

Part 3 - Supporting right-wing religious extremists in Syria

While the U.S.-supported ruling government of Ukraine has the most in common with those who took to the streets in Charlottesville to express their white nationalist views, the U.S. has also supported other militant, right-wing factions of a different stripe, particularly in the Middle East. Though the U.S.’ support for right-wing religious extremists in the Middle East is well-known, Syria is a definitive case study where the U.S. supported – and still supports – right-wing terrorist groups. These groups have specifically targeted ethnic and religious minorities and sought violently to undermine a democratically-elected government of Syria that has long embraced and attempted to protect the country’s ethnic and religious diversity.

The U.S. had long justified its now defunct program of funding and arming anti-government groups in Syria by claiming that these groups comprise the “moderate opposition,” who enjoy popular support in their efforts to overthrow the Syrian government led by President Bashar al-Assad. Analysts knew early on, however, that this justification was a myth. Even the hawkish national security columnist of the CIA-linked Washington Post, David Ignatius, wrote in 2014 that “The problem is that the ‘moderate opposition’ that the United States is backing is still largely a fantasy.

These supposed “moderate” rebels have – time and again — been shown to share close ties to al-Nusra Front, the Syrian branch of the terror group al-Qaeda. Leaders of al-Nusra themselves have also acknowledged receiving covert U.S. Support.

Similar groups such as Nour al-Din al-Zenki, like al-Nusra and Daesh (ISIS), seek to transform Syria into an “Islamic state” that would effectively criminalize the religious diversity and secularism that have long characterized life in Syria. Despite the fact that these “moderate” groups have beheaded and slaughtered young children and other civilians on innumerable occasions, U.S. politicians such as Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Sens. Graham and McCain were instrumental in funding and empowering these groups and, by extension, enabling the atrocities they have committed.

Part 4 - Corporate connection to Trump’s change of heart on Iraq partition

Over the years since these deals were struck, the Kurdish separatist parties in Iraq have benefited immensely, though more recently they have been hit hard by the global drop in oil prices. In 2014, they were exporting 280,000 barrels of oil every day. And, despite troubles with foreign companies brought on by falling oil prices and the rise of Daesh (ISIS), the Kurds – as of the end of 2016 – were exporting nearly 600,000 barrels a day.

Though Daesh was painted by the media as a scourge to the Kurds, they have in fact benefited from Daesh’s invasion of large swaths of Iraq. Indeed, the Kurds – trained, armed and provided with airstrike support by the U.S. and Israel – have taken control of many former Daesh territories and have thereby expanded the size of their own territory.

The U.S. and its regional allies have said that the Kurds’ ability to confront Daesh essentially entitles them to “have their way.” As Sadad Ibrahim al-Husseini, former head of exploration and development for the Saudi state oil company Aramco told The New York Times in 2014: “At the end of the day, the Kurds will have their way, because they are the only credible Sunni group that can confront ISIS.

Not surprisingly, the Kurd’s oil riches have brought them into direct conflict with Iraq’s central government, which has since cut off national funding for the Kurdish region and threatened any country or company buying Kurdish oil with legal action for violating the nation’s constitution by not sharing its oil sale revenue equally among all Iraqis.

However, countries like Turkey and Israel continue to buy significant amounts of oil, as well as natural gas, from the Kurds. Turkey’s case is particularly interesting given Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s well-known hatred of the Kurds and opposition to Kurdish independence in Syria. However, when it comes to Iraqi Kurdistan at least, economic factors have won out, with Turkey’s ruling party having stated that Kurds in Iraq have the right to self-determination.

Kurdish control of Iraq’s oil-rich north is key to the partitioning plan. As Michael Makovsky, a former Pentagon official, told The New York Times: “I think Iraqi Kurdish independence is inevitable, at least eventually. They have natural allies in the United States because of the oil companies involved in drilling there. And the Turks and Europeans need their gas.

Though candidate Trump had not voiced support for a partition of Iraq, spurred by his administration’s strong ties to the oil industry, Washington has become even more friendly to the Kurds – and to the idea of Kurdish secession – since Trump took office.

However, when the State Department was asked by journalist Nafeez Ahmed whether it still stood by the traditional position of supporting a unified Iraq, a department spokesperson answered: “With respect to the unity of Iraq, you’re right; that is something we make a point of saying. But ultimately, these are all internal political discussions that Iraq needs to have with all ethnic groups resident in the country.” As Ahmed notes, this is the first time that the State Department has officially announced the U.S.’ willingness to consider the partition of Iraq.

When Washington decides Democracy is dangerous: stoking opposition in Venezuela and Syria

by Ramiro S. Fúnez

Part 5 - Withering opposition movements

For years, Washington and its propagandists in mainstream media have predicted that Maduro and Assad will eventually be forced out of power through “democratic uprisings” in both countries. This delusional fantasy has yet to come true.

Instead, confident forecasts that both leaders “will step down” have mutated into hopeful suggestions that “they should step down.” U.S. media pundits and policymakers alike remain baffled at the fact that Obama left office before Maduro and Assad did.

What’s the reason for this? It’s not because they have “consolidated their grip on power,” as both liberals and conservatives characterize it. Rather, it’s because millions of Venezuelans and Syrians have recognized that U.S. intervention does not offer them a future. All one needs to do is take a look at Iraq and Afghanistan, which the United States has left in ruins by supporting “pro-democracy efforts.”

Citizens of both Venezuela and Syria have affirmed that they — not bureaucrats in Washington or wealthy elites on Wall Street — will be the molders of their own destiny.

In Venezuela, for example, over eight million people participated in the country’s July 30 National Constituent Assembly vote, electing 545 candidates to help rewrite the Constitution. The democratic process, which was undertaken and implemented in accordance with the country’s laws, is intended to bring together broad sectors of society in order to secure peace and stability.

Since the National Constituent Assembly vote took place, opposition leaders have remained divided on whether to participate in upcoming regional elections. Opposition protests have also lost popularity among swaths of citizens who are tired of violence and yearn for peace and stability.

And in Syria, Assad’s government has successfully liberated dozens of Daesh and rebel-held areas that had been living under the gun for years. The Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party has also been able to restore electricity, running water and other important infrastructure in areas that were previously destroyed by the Syrian opposition and Saudi-backed terrorists.

With help from Russia and Iran, Syria has also been able to create four safe zones across the country, which serve as an important first step toward re-establishing peace and unity in the Middle Eastern nation.

What remains clear is this: the Venezuelan and Syrian oppositions, which were born together as twin faces of modern imperialism, are also destined to wither away alongside one another.
