49 εκατομμύρια δολάρια από τον προϋπολογισμό των ΗΠΑ για τη δεξιά στη Βενεζουέλα

Περίπου από το 2009 και μετά, τουλάχιστον 49 εκατομμύρια δολάρια έχουν ενταχθεί στον προϋπολογισμό του Υπουργείου Εξωτερικών των ΗΠΑ για την υποστήριξη των δεξιών δυνάμεων της αντιπολίτευσης στη Βενεζουέλα. Οι δεξιές δυνάμεις βρίσκονται ήδη στην έβδομη εβδομάδα βίαιων διαμαρτυριών για να «ρίξουν» τον δημοκρατικά εκλεγμένο πρόεδρο Νικολάς Μαδούρο.

Σύμφωνα με την αιτιολόγηση του προϋπολογισμού για το 2010, η οποία προόριζε 6 εκατομμύρια δολάρια για το «Ταμείο Οικονομικής Υποστήριξης» της Βενεζουέλας, ο προϋπολογισμός αυτός θα «στηρίξει τις προσπάθειες διατήρησης και επέκτασης του δημοκρατικού χώρου μέσω προγραμμάτων που ενισχύουν και προάγουν την κοινωνία των πολιτών, τα ανεξάρτητα ΜΜΕ, διάφορες οργανώσεις ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων και δημοκρατικά κόμματα».

Σε μια λεπτομερέστερη ανάλυση για τα 5 εκατομμύρια δολάρια του προϋπολογισμού του 2011, που προορίζονταν για την οικονομική στήριξη της Βενεζουέλας, φαίνεται πως το 1 εκατομμύριο προορίζονταν ειδικά για την ανάπτυξη του «πολιτικού ανταγωνισμού και της ομοφωνίας».

Σε όλες τις αιτιολογίες του προϋπολογισμού για την Βενεζουέλα, το Υπουργείου Εξωτερικών των ΗΠΑ υπογραμμίζει επανειλημμένα την ανησυχία του για τις «αυξανόμενες αυταρχικές τάσεις» των κυβερνήσεων του Ούγκο Τσάβες και του σημερινού προέδρου Νικολάς Μαδούρο, παρά τις τακτικές εκλογές οι οποίες αναγνωρίζονται διεθνώς.

Ο προϋπολογισμός του 2009 συνέχισε τη στήριξη και τη χρηματοδότηση του Οργανισμού Αμερικανικών Κρατών, προκειμένου να αποστείλουν ομάδες «επαγγελματιών της δημοκρατίας» στη Βενεζουέλα και τη Βολιβία, όπου, όπως αναφέρουν «η δημοκρατία απειλείται από την αυξανόμενη παρουσία εναλλακτικών εννοιών όπως η 'συμμετοχική δημοκρατία'». Η φύση των δραστηριοτήτων που ασκούν οι ομάδες αυτές δεν διευκρινίζεται στους προϋπολογισμούς.

Ο Λουίς Αλμάγκρο, Γενικός Γραμματέας του Οργανισμού Αμερικανικών Κρατών, ηγήθηκε σε εκστρατεία για την απομάκρυνση της Βενεζουέλας από την περιφερειακή οργάνωση. Στις 26 Απριλίου το σώμα ψήφισε να πραγματοποιήσει συνάντηση με θέμα την κατάσταση της χώρας (την οποία η Βενεζουέλα χαρακτήρισε ως παραβίαση της κυριαρχίας της) με αποτέλεσμα ο πρόεδρος Μαδούρο να ανακοινώσει την επίσημη απόσυρση της χώρας από την ομάδα.

Στον προϋπολογισμό για το 2011, το υπουργείο Εξωτερικών των ΗΠΑ έγραψε: «Οι Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες έχουν μεγάλο ενδιαφέρον για τη διατήρηση και την ενίσχυση των δημοκρατικών θεσμών της Βενεζουέλας».

Από την αρχή της Επανάστασης της Βενεζουέλας, με τη δημοκρατική εκλογή του πρώην προέδρου Ούγκο Τσάβες το 1998, το πλούσιο σε πετρέλαιο έθνος έχει δεχθεί επανειλημμένα επιθέσεις που το χαρακτηρίζουν ως «αντιδημοκρατικό». Ο πρόεδρος Μαδούρο επανέλαβε ότι οι εκλογές θα διεξαχθούν όπως έχουν προγραμματιστεί, δηλαδή το 2018, αλλά η αντιπολίτευση ζήτησε την άμεση απομάκρυνσή του, αναζητώντας ξένη παρέμβαση στην εκστρατεία αποσταθεροποίησης τους.

Η επαναστατική κυβέρνηση έχει περιορίσει σημαντικά την πολιτική και οικονομική κυριαρχία που είχαν οι Η.Π.Α. στο πετρέλαιο της Βενεζουέλας. Πριν από την εκλογή του Τσάβες, παρά την πληθώρα πόρων, η Βενεζουέλα μαστίζονταν από τεράστιες ταξικές ανισότητες.

Σύμφωνα με πηγές του ΟΗΕ, τα ποσοστά φτώχειας στη Βενεζουέλα άγγιζαν σχεδόν το 60% πριν από το 1998 και μέχρι το 2015 έφτασαν στο 30%, παρά την οικονομική κρίση που προκάλεσε η πτώση των τιμών του πετρελαίου. Στο πλαίσιο της Βολιβιανής κυβέρνησης, η ιατρική περίθαλψη είναι ευρέως διαθέσιμη μέσω του προγράμματος Μπάριο Αντέντρο και το μέσο προσδόκιμο ζωής έχει σταθερά αυξηθεί.

Η κυβέρνηση των ΗΠΑ παραμένει σιωπηλή σχετικά με την εκτεταμένη βία των δεξιών αντιπολιτευτικών ομάδων που χρηματοδοτούν, η οποία το 2014 είχε ως αποτέλεσμα 43 θανάτους, εκ των οποίων η αντιπολίτευση ήταν υπεύθυνη για περισσότερους από τους μισούς.

Αυτή τη στιγμή, οι βίαιες διαμαρτυρίες της δεξιάς για αποβολή του Μαδούρο συνεχίζουν για έβδομη εβδομάδα και έχουν οδηγήσει σε τουλάχιστον 50 θανάτους και πολλούς περισσότερους τραυματισμούς. Παρόλο που η κυβέρνηση καλεί σε διάλογο, η αντιπολίτευση αρνείται να συμμετάσχει και κάλεσε τους υποστηρικτές της να συνεχίσουν τις διαδηλώσεις.

Οι Η.Π.Α. έχοντας επίγνωση πως οι προσπάθειες αλλαγής καθεστώτος τους δεν είναι ιδιαίτερα ευπρόσδεκτες από τις μάζες, στον προϋπολογισμό του 2008 αναφέρουν: «Η δημοκρατία στη Λατινική Αμερική, όπως υποστηρίχθηκε από τις ανεπτυγμένες χώρες, χαρακτηρίζεται όλο και περισσότερο από τις λαϊκίστικες φωνές ως εκμεταλλευτική και ιμπεριαλιστική».

Σύμφωνα με ένα στρατηγικό έγγραφο του 2007, που διέρρευσε από τον whistleblower της CIA, Edward Snowden, το 2013, η Βενεζουέλα θεωρείται ο βασικός αντίπαλος των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών στο δυτικό ημισφαίριο. Η χώρα ήταν ανάμεσα στους έξι απώτερους στόχους της NSA, μαζί με την Κίνα, τη Βόρεια Κορέα, το Ιράκ, το Ιράν και τη Ρωσία.

Greta Thunberg, is the 16-year-old Swedish climate activist who has inspired millions across the globe. Last year she launched a school strike for the climate, skipping school every Friday to stand in front of the Swedish parliament, demanding action to prevent catastrophic climate change.

'How dare you!': Greta Thunberg rages at 'fairytales of eternal economic growth' at UN climate summit

In a speech to the United Nations Climate Action Summit Monday, Swedish youth climate activist Greta Thunberg lit into world leaders for their "empty words" around solving the climate crisis and said decades of inaction have left her generation without a future.

EVERYONE is on the list: Snowden says no ‘innocents’ in mass surveillance world

Asked if buying his memoir would get one on a spy list, NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden chillingly replied that everyone in the world is on the “list” and there are no innocents in the age of mass surveillance.

Responding to a reader who joked that buying Snowden’s book ‘Permanent Record’ might have put him on a list of people to be spied on, the exiled former intelligence contractor said in all seriousness that everyone is being spied on regardless.

“Systems of mass surveillance strive to record all people, in all places, at all times. The question is no longer ‘Am I on the list?’ it is ‘What's my rank on the list?’,” Snowden tweeted on Wednesday.
The former NSA and CIA contractor became a household name in 2013, when he revealed the extent of surveillance by the ‘Five Eyes’ network of US and its allies. He fled to Hong Kong ahead of being charged with espionage and eventually found asylum in Russia.

Washington State has long been a corporate tax haven, having the most regressive tax system in the entire nation.
