Άραγε τι παραπλανητικά στοιχεία για το δημοψήφισμα θα μας προσφέρουν αύριο;

Λονδίνο, μια βδομάδα πριν το δημοψήφισμα, και οι συζητήσεις περί Brexit κυριαρχούν παντού.

Τα ξενοφοβικά αντανακλαστικά πολλών Βρετανών εκδηλώνονται με επιχειρήματα για τις θέσεις εργασίας που οι Ευρωπαίοι μετανάστες «στερούν» στους ντόπιους, για το ότι τα ποσά που η χώρα είναι υποχρεωμένη να πληρώνει τις Βρυξέλλες θα επενδυθούν στο μέλλον προς όφελος της Βρετανίας, και ότι η Βρετανία πρέπει να σπάσει τα «δεσμά» της ΕΕ. Ενώ όσοι υποστηρίζουν την παραμονή στην ΕΕ αναφέρονται στα πλεονεκτήματα της «κοινής αγοράς», στην πολιτισμική κοινότητα της Ευρώπης, και στις τεράστιες οικονομικές απώλειες που θα επιφέρει ένα Brexit.

Οι συζητήσεις αντανακλούν σε μεγάλο βαθμό την παραπληροφόρηση που διοχετεύουν οι καμπάνιες υπέρ (Bremain) και κατά (Brexit) της παραμονής στην ΕΕ σε καθημερινή βάση. Ταυτόχρονα, το Bremain φαίνεται να έχει χάσει τον «μπούσουλα» και τελευταία κάνει όλο και περισσότερο απελπισμένες προσπάθειες να πείσει το μεγάλο αριθμό μη προνομιούχων Βρετανών, οι οποίοι στο παρελθόν ήταν ψηφοφόροι των Εργατικών, και θα ψηφίσουν Brexit, κυρίως γιατί δεν εμπιστεύονται τους πολιτικούς – Συντηρητικούς ή Εργατικούς – που κυβερνούν τη χώρα τα τελευταία 20 χρόνια.

Για αυτό το λόγο, στην καμπάνια του Bremain πρωταγωνιστούν σήμερα πρωτοκλασάτα στελέχη των Εργατικών, όπως ο νέος δήμαρχος του Λονδίνου, Σάντικ Καν, ο Τζέρεμι Κόρμπιν, και ο πρώην αρχηγός των Εργατικών Μίλιμπαντ. Ο πρωθυπουργός Κάμερον λάμπει δια της απουσίας του, καθότι στην παρούσα συγκυρία θεωρείται «τοξικός» για την καμπάνια και οι ψηφοφόροι τους οποίους πρέπει να πείσει δεν τον εμπιστεύονται.

Παρά τις απαισιόδοξες δημοσκοπήσεις για το Bremain, ο Κάμερον δηλώνει επανειλημμένα ότι θα παραμείνει πρωθυπουργός, όποιο και να είναι το αποτέλεσμα του δημοψηφίσματος. Κάτι ανάλογο μάλλον έλεγε και ο Ναπολέων λίγα λεπτά πριν από τη λήξη της μάχης του Βατερλώ. Ενώ ο Νάιτζελ Φάρατζ, έχοντας πρωτοστατήσει σε όλη την αναταραχή που έχει προκαλέσει το θέμα του Brexit, τώρα δηλώνει ότι δεν έχει ιδέα τι μέλει γενέσθαι εάν η Βρετανία φύγει από την ΕΕ. Πρόκειται για τη μόνη ειλικρινή δήλωση του Φάρατζ μέχρι στιγμής: δηλαδή ότι «πάμε στο άγνωστο με βάρκα την ελπίδα».

Παρότι το αποτέλεσμα είναι αβέβαιο, οι πολιτικοί και των δύο παρατάξεων αποφεύγουν την αλήθεια όπως ο διάβολος αποφεύγει το λιβάνι. Καμία αναφορά στο γεγονός ότι είτε εντός είτε εκτός της ΕΕ η λιτότητα και το πλιάτσικο της δημόσιας περιουσίας και των φορολογουμένων θα συνεχιστούν ακάθεκτα. Ακόμα και τα πιο χειροπιαστά στοιχεία σχετικά με τη μετανάστευση δεν αναφέρονται, για να μη θιγούν οι ξενοφοβικές προκαταλήψεις των ψηφοφόρων.

Διότι στο πολυπολιτισμικό Λονδίνο, όπου το 50% των κατοίκων έχει γεννηθεί σε άλλη χώρα, εύκολα βλέπει κανείς πως παραπλανούνται οι Βρετανοί σχετικά με το εάν οι Ευρωπαίοι τους «στερούν» θέσεις εργασίας. Όποιος μπει στο τραίνο νωρίς το πρωί, θα βρει το βαγόνι του γεμάτο ανατολικό-Ευρωπαίους οικοδόμους που πάνε στην δουλειά τους. Όμως όποιος προσπαθεί να βρει οικοδόμο, ακόμα και για την παραμικρότερη επισκευή στο σπίτι του, πρέπει να περιμένει αρκετό καιρό. Διότι, απλούστατα, δεν υπάρχουν αρκετοί – Βρετανοί ή αλλοδαποί – οικοδόμοι για να καλύψουν την τεράστια ζήτηση στην βρετανική πρωτεύουσα. Και το ίδιο συμβαίνει με πολλά άλλα επαγγέλματα.

Ταυτόχρονα, καμία αναφορά δεν γίνεται και από τις δύο πλευρές στο γεγονός ότι η ανεργία στην Βρετανία πέφτει συνεχώς και έχει φθάσει στο 5%, παρότι πάνω από 2 εκατομμύρια Ευρωπαίοι πολίτες εργάζονται στην Βρετανία. Τσιμουδιά για το γεγονός ότι πολλές θέσεις εργασίας βασίζονται σε εξευτελιστικά συμβόλαια «zero-hours», με τα οποία οι εργαζόμενοι βρίσκονται στη διάθεση του εργοδότη, χωρίς αυτός να δεσμεύεται ότι θα τους προσφέρει έστω και μία ώρα εργασίας. Σιγή ιχθύος σχετικά με το ότι τα κονδύλια τόσο της ΕΕ, όσο και της βρετανικής κυβέρνησης, στηρίζουν τις τράπεζες και τα μεγάλα συμφέροντα.

Ταυτόχρονα, μερικοί «αριστεροί» βουλευτές που υποστηρίζουν το Brexit ποζάρουν αναίσχυντα με τον Νάιτζελ Φάρατζ. Ευτυχώς υπάρχουν εξαιρέσεις σαν τον Ντένις Σκίνερ, τον πρώην ανθρακωρύχο και βουλευτή των Εργατικών για 46 χρόνια, παράδειγμα ακούραστης φωνής διαμαρτυρίας και πρότυπο πολιτικής συνέπειας στο Κοινοβούλιο. Ο Σκίνερ υποστηρίζει το Brexit γιατί πιστεύει ότι όσο πιο διασπασμένο είναι το καπιταλιστικό μέτωπο, τόσο πιο εύκολο είναι να καταπολεμηθεί. Όμως, ο Σκίνερ αποτελεί φωνή βοώντος εν τη (κοινοβουλευτική) ερήμω.

Αυτά για τώρα. Με το Poll Tracker των Financial Times να δείχνει 5% προβάδισμα στο Brexit, απομένει να δούμε στις επόμενες μέρες τι άλλα παραπλανητικά στοιχεία θα προσφέρουν οι δύο παρατάξεις στην προσπάθεια τους να πείσουν τους ψηφοφόρους. Χθες είχαμε το φόβητρο των 40 δις. ευρώ έξτρα φόρων σε περίπτωση Brexit, και οι «προσφορές» αυξάνονται καθημερινά. Σήμερα οι καμπάνιες διακόπηκαν προσωρινά λόγω της δολοφονίας της βουλευτίνας Τζο Κοξ. Από αύριο ξαναρχίζει η μάχη της παραπληροφόρησης.

Greta Thunberg, is the 16-year-old Swedish climate activist who has inspired millions across the globe. Last year she launched a school strike for the climate, skipping school every Friday to stand in front of the Swedish parliament, demanding action to prevent catastrophic climate change.
Her protest spread, quickly going global. Hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren around the globe have participated in their own local school strikes for the climate.

'How dare you!': Greta Thunberg rages at 'fairytales of eternal economic growth' at UN climate summit

In a speech to the United Nations Climate Action Summit Monday, Swedish youth climate activist Greta Thunberg lit into world leaders for their "empty words" around solving the climate crisis and said decades of inaction have left her generation without a future.

"People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosytems are collapsing. We are at the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth," said Thunberg. "How dare you!"

EVERYONE is on the list: Snowden says no ‘innocents’ in mass surveillance world

Asked if buying his memoir would get one on a spy list, NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden chillingly replied that everyone in the world is on the “list” and there are no innocents in the age of mass surveillance.

Responding to a reader who joked that buying Snowden’s book ‘Permanent Record’ might have put him on a list of people to be spied on, the exiled former intelligence contractor said in all seriousness that everyone is being spied on regardless.

“Systems of mass surveillance strive to record all people, in all places, at all times. The question is no longer ‘Am I on the list?’ it is ‘What's my rank on the list?’,” Snowden tweeted on Wednesday.
The former NSA and CIA contractor became a household name in 2013, when he revealed the extent of surveillance by the ‘Five Eyes’ network of US and its allies. He fled to Hong Kong ahead of being charged with espionage and eventually found asylum in Russia.
