There were
272 anti-government militias in the U.S. in 2015, according to a
report by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
The number
of extremist anti-government militias in the United States witnessed
a one-third increase in 2015, the Southern Poverty Law Center said in
a report Thursday.
There were
at least 276 militia groups active in the U.S. last year, compared to
202 such groups in 2014, according to the report. The rise in groups
marks a 37 percent increase.
The report
comes as an armed anti-government militia continues to occupy a
government building in rural Oregon, in what they say is a protest
against the federal government's wildlife policies.
