Proxy wars everywhere, the planet already in flames ...

The planet is full of serious conflicts and the definition of war probably needs to be redefined in our era

by system failure

We read and hear the term "proxy war" with an increasing frequency inside the blogosphere and through various analyses. Has the type of wars changed dramatically? Do we need to redefine the term "war"? It appears that after September 11, 2001 attacks the new type of the so-called "proxy wars" has been adopted not only by terrorists and groups of extremists, but even by the most powerful nations too.

War probably needs to be redefined in a sense that either it is not conducted directly by nations, or, nations themselves simulate methods more familiar to paramilitary groups, avoiding a full force conflict in open front. Moreover, the line between victory and defeat is not clear at all, and in most cases it is of less importance.

A list of recent proxy or proxy-type wars

After the 2003 invasion of Iraq, we meet the new type of wars more and more frequently. A short list includes:

  • The 2006 Lebanon War, which was actually a war between Israel and Hezbollah. Although many support that Israel has been defeated by a non-national army, the result remains controversial. The war is also considered sometimes as an Iran–Israel proxy conflict.

  • The continuous Gaza-strip war. A type of ongoing/interrupted war conducted by Israel. The cause of this ongoing conflict is often presented by the Western media as the Hamas aggression through rockets inside the Israeli territory. However, Israel exhibits always excessive violence causing the deaths of many Palestinian civilians, while blocking humanitarian aid, which shows that there is an intention of ethnic cleansing in this overpopulated small piece of land and its final occupation by Israel.

  • The war in Afghanistan. After the US invasion and their allies at the beginning of the previous decade, the type of war in Afghanistan has changed dramatically. It appears that the US are seeking a way to withdraw forces from another dead-end war, which turns out to be extremely costly and inexpedient. The US are currently using Afghanistan as one of the experimental fields for a new type of war through Unmanned Aerial Vehicles known as drones. Although this type of war supposedly conducted against specific targets (dangerous terrorists), there is plenty of evidence about the high inaccuracy of these systems causing the death of many innocents.

  • The war in Syria. The Western official position propagated by the mainstream media, is that the war was caused by the brutal Assad regime during the Arab spring. The reality is that this is another proxy war by the Western puppets against the Russian influence in the East Mediterranean and Iran, by trying to throw from power their strongest ally in the area. The proxy war is conducted by the US and its allies in the area (mostly Turkey and Saudi Arabia), who indirectly support ISIS through various ways. The chaotic situation can also be proved by the fact that Turkey is exploiting it, to promote its independent agenda, conducting parallel proxy wars.

  • The Ukraine conflict. A proxy war against Russia by the West, next to the Russian borders. Behind the color revolutions, one can always find US financed organizations. The Western allies would not dare to face directly the Russian army. In the Ukraine conflict one could find private armies of mercenaries. The most stupid action by the Western puppets was to support neo-nazis against the local Russian populations. This was something that exposed their real intention, which is to encircle Russia through puppet regimes who would permit the Western military presence in their territories.

  • The Libyan War. Another proxy war by the West through the Arab Spring to throw an undesirable regime. The war brought absolute mess inside the country and increased the arc of the Islamic extremism throughout north Africa to Iraq and Syria. Although it can be considered a "preventive" proxy war to destabilize regimes that could offer an opportunity to Russia to expand its influence in the wider Mediterannean, it could be also considered a preventive action against the Chinese economic expansion in the entire African continent, according to some analysts. Eric Draitser of StopImperialism.org, points that Libya needs to be understood as the staging ground for a continent-wide destabilization all throughout the North Africa and West Africa region for the purposes of preventing China from consolidating its position and providing Africa with an alternative development model. These countries understand that they are enslaved by debt, enslaved by corporate capital to the West, that their independence is nominal at debt and they see in China a potential alternative development path. That is what the US and its allies have to crush, and terrorism is one of the ways that they are doing that. (fa.ev/from-paris-to-syria-libya) Boko Haram fits perfectly in this plan.

  • Russia vs Turkey. In reality we have already an indirect conflict between two major players in the East Mediterranean and the Middle East. Turkey exploits the chaos in Syria to enhance the Syrian Turkomans and fulfill Erdogan's dreams for territorial and influential expansion in the wider Middle East. The Russian intervention is a big barrier against these ambitions. The recent incident with the downed Russian jet by the Turkish forces marks the start of a small scale conflict between the two countries. The Russians responded by bombing a Turkish convoy allegedly carrying weapons to militants in Syria.

  • Turkey vs Kurds. Turkey also exploits the current chaos and tries to crush Kurdish resistance. One of the reasons that supports ISIS is to use it against the Kurds. It is a sub-proxy war by Turkey in the area according to its own agenda. The US are probably not very happy with that, because they want to use ISIS in full force against Assad and consider Kurds as allies.

  • Conflicts in Caucasus - Xinjiang China. Another type of proxy wars by the US and the West in an effort to destabilize the two major opponents in the global arena: Russia and China. Turkey exploits also this situation to expand its influence in regions far from the Turkish territory, using the advantage of the related Turkic minorities. Russia has another reason to see Turkey as a threat, despite the common economic interests between the two countries.

  • The Yemeni Civil War. A proxy war by the US against the forces supported by Iran, in an effort to throw another friendly-to-Iran regime. Saudi Arabia and other allies are used for this war with the US providing indirect assistance.

  • Paris attacks, other attacks in Western soil. It is the new type of a full asymmetric war conducted by Islamic extremists inside Western urban areas. The West discovered that it has to face an unprecedented situation which seems to be very difficult to confront: suicide bombings. Although this situation has proven that the US imperialism has lost the control of its creation called ISIS, these attacks are quite convenient for the implementation of the new conditions that include the gradual elimination of the civil liberties inside the Western societies.

Old-fashioned wars extremely costly and inefficient

It appears that direct wars between nations are extremely costly and inefficient in our days. The increasingly complex environment in the multi-polar world is not suitable for full-scale conflicts. The continuous armament even of less important regional powers, is another preventing factor towards this perspective.

According to the new perception, victory in a war is of less importance. What matters is to achieve specific goals that have been set. The United States were the pioneers of this strategy since the end of WWII, as they managed to fulfill specific goals, increasing substantially their global influence without actually winning any war!

But the ultimate victims are real and always the same. Thousands of innocents who lose their lives, or, being forced to abandon their homes, their countries, towards a totally uncertain future. In the "unofficial" proxy wars conducted by powers behind the scenes, there is no need of respect to human rights. Thousands can be killed, tortured, or, displaced, without these crimes could ever be punished.

  1. The ongoing litany of US military failures vs. damage done to other societies is not a new one. Luttwak has talked about the strategy used by the Byzantine empire to hold together for centuries after the fall of the western half of Rome.
What Mr. Luttwak fails to note, however, is that this strategy is one of weakness. Byzantium did hold together longer, but it never occupied anything like the military, economic, or geostrategic position which Rome held for centuries.
And equally, the use of US resources to foment so much damage worldwide is another sign of weakness: that its economic and even outright military leadership is waning in the face of structural changes in the world economic, hence geopolitical order.

  4. Well, they certainly are doing a piss poor job of emptying the 3rd world. With all the proxy wars you listed, wildlife, and wilderness should make a speedy recovery.

But that's not the case. People, breeding like roaches, continue to poison the planet

WikiLeaks paper reveals US empire was becoming anxious about Venezuela adopting euro and directing exports to China

The WIKILEAKS Public Library of US Diplomacy (PlusD)holds the world's largest searchable collection of United States confidential, or formerly confidential, diplomatic communications. As of April 8, 2013 it holds 2 million records comprising approximately 1 billion words. The collection covers US involvements in, and diplomatic or intelligence reporting on, every country on earth. It is the single most significant body of geopolitical material ever published. The PlusD collection, built and curated by WikiLeaks, is updated from a variety of sources, including leaks, documents released under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and documents released by the US State Department systematic declassification review.

Russiagate collapse shows CIA black propaganda loops are obsolete and ineffective

In his documentary The Power Of Nightmares, Adam Curtis presents the case of William Casey, head of the CIA under Reagan administration.
As has been described previously, to persuade the President, the neoconservatives set out to prove that the Soviet threat was far greater than anyone. They would demonstrate that the majority of terrorism and revolutionary movements around the world, were actually part of a secret network, coordinated by Moscow to take over the world.
The main proponent of this theory was a leading neoconservative who was the special adviser to the Secretary of State. His name was Michael Ledeen and he had been influenced by a best-selling book called "The Terror Network". It alleged that terrorism was not the fragmented phenomenon that it appeared to be. In reality, all terrorist groups, from the PLO to the Baader-Meinhof Group in Germany and the provisional IRA, all of them, were a part of coordinated strategy of terror run by the Soviet…

Arrest of Julian Assange: the last remaining leaf of the fascist neoliberal regime drops - we are now at war

globinfo freexchange
What other proof would you need to convince yourself that we already live under a global-scale fascist regime whose headquarters are located in the US evil empire?
This is a war against real journalism. It is a direct threat against all the independent media with real journalists who expose the war crimes of the empire and its allies. After this, expect an ongoing, brutal hunt against every real journalist who will attempt to report the truth, contrary the corporate PR parrots of the mainstream media - the golden operatives of the establishment, who faithfully stick to the script.
The utter joke of 'anti-establishment' Donald Trump collapsed from his first day in the US presidency, but now, its repulsive ugliness has been revealed gloriously. While Donnie was actually praising WikiLeaks before his election, he now said that "I know nothing about Wikileaks. It's not my thing".

A message for the worst liberal establishment ever: don't you dare harm Julian Assange

by system failure
The neoliberal clowns of the Western mainstream media increasingly shed crocodile tears about what they consider 'fake news' and the rise of the far right.
The hypocrisy and absurdity of the whole thing will make you laugh loud. Because these are the PR agents of the corporations behind the mainstream media who brought us Trump and the far right.
These are the cheerleaders of endless wars, and in fact, the only time they supported Trump was when he bombed Syria.
This is the ugly face of the establishment that pretends to be the gatekeeper of 'real news', while everyone else is 'fake news'. It doesn't matter if they work 24 hours a day to brainwash you with BS neoliberal and pro-war propaganda. You know, just to maintain this awful status in favor of their super-wealthy bosses.
It's not new. They did it for decades and it worked. People back then were like blind rats whose sole information was coming from the mainstream media. There were n…

The ruthless neo-colonialists of 21st century

by system failure
The start of current decade revealed the most ruthless face of a global neo-colonialism. From Syria and Libya to Europe and Latin America, the old colonial powers of the West tried to rebound against an oncoming rival bloc led by Russia and China, which starts to threaten their global domination.
Inside a multi-polar, complex terrain of geopolitical games, the big players start to abandon the old-fashioned, inefficient direct wars. They use today other, various methods like brutal proxy wars, economic wars, financial and constitutional coups, provocative operations, 'color revolutions', etc. In this highly complex and unstable situation, when even traditional allies turn against each other as the global balances change rapidly, the forces unleashed are absolutely destructive. Inevitably, the results are more than evident.

A second Brexit referendum will boost the extreme right and the fascists further

globinfo freexchange
Costas Lapavitsas spoke with Paul Jay of The Real News and explained why a second Brexit referendum will fuel the far right nightmare:
The working class people, the poor and others who voted for Brexit in 2016, take their vote very seriously. Another referendum - before the first one will have been implemented - will look, and it will be, a direct negation of democracy. It will be a direct subverting of democracy. They will have been told ‘your vote counts for nothing’.
In that context, the only political current that can benefit is the extreme right. And they're there. They're already active. They speak the language of the working people.
There are actually now out and out fascists who are organizing actively. They call for a defense of democracy. They call for a rejection of politicians and politics in the sense that these politicians and official politics, democratic politics, are maneuvers used by the rich, and they’ve got nothing to do with the poor, and…

Tulsi Gabbard bravely defends Julian Assange on a US deep state platform

Here is another proof that she, or Jill Stein, should be the next US president if we want to escape from the fascist neocon/neoliberal regime - sorry Bernie, but your silence is very disturbing

Many progressives feel extremely disappointed for the fact that the only 2020 Democrat progressive candidate who clearly defended one of the few remaining real journalists against the neocon/neoliberal fascist regime, is Tulsi Gabbard.
We still hope that Bernie Sanders will eventually take a clear position in favor of Julian Assange.
Nevertheless, in dark times like the one we are experiencing, things become more clear. We can see who is the one that will defend bravely the interests of the people against the totalitarian complex of Wall Street, corporate cabal and US deep state.
Tulsi Gabbard, and of course Jill Stein, are the best options right now for the 2020 US presidency, if we really want to see a radical change for the benefit of the American people and the world.
