A new doctrine with an old recipe

by system failure

The policy of austerity and absolute commitment to the fiscal discipline imposed on the eurozone states, seems to fail completely. Not only does not give any sign of hope for the future, but neither improves the economies of the states, but worsens them instead. Unemployment in Greece and Spain has broken every record while the picture even in the most developed countries does not seem to improve.

The similarities with the period that followed the Great Depression in US in 1929 is, one might say, shocking. The gap between rich and poor is widening, while extreme nationalism is gaining ground in Europe despite the great suffering that brought in the past. If history is repeated, we should, unfortunately, expect new major upheavals and conflicts worldwide, towards the end of this decade or at the beginning of the next one. But today, there are also some differences from the Interwar period. The most significant are, the great expansion of the middle class in the West, the economic growth of the developing countries, and the full deregulation of the free market as well as the rapid transfer of capital globaly with the help of technology.

We experiencing the paradox of a totalitarianism which manages to spread despite the destruction that brings. The collective memory that works in societies currently prevents major conflicts, but the new doctrine of globalization, adjusted to the big banks and corporations, is using the old tested recipe of "divide and rule", to impose the final victory of this totalitarianism.

The divided middle class is a key weapon that is used by the new doctrine. Within states, conflicting interests of the middle class groups are mobilized, as a result mainly of the current crisis. Typical examples in Greece are, the controversy between hotel owners and hotel staff about the salary reductions of the last, pharmacists and patients, private sector and public sector employees about the different levels of wages and different risk of firing, unions that remain attached to defend exclusively their own interests. A typical recent example is the judiciary, which due to the new cuts in their wages are threatening with new strikes, while they don't seem that they care to contribute in serious issues for the Greek society like the possibility of audit of public debt, or, the deep investigation of a plethora of serious scandals concerning the Greek political class. As long as there are conflicting interests within the middle class, massive street protests are ineffective.

At an international level, the middle classes of countries are divided by stereotypes which the mouthpieces of the new doctrine build. Recent examples are the characteristics that are given to the peoples of the eurozone periphery, such as lazy, PIGS, etc., while in southern Europe, the perception that Germany continues to benefit from the crisis becomes quite popular. All these crude generalities which are spreading by the mouthpieces of the new doctrine, are aiming to prevent a possible dynamic mass mobilization of the middle class across Europe, which could be crusial for the termination of policies that the new doctrine promotes.

Additionaly, the argument of the new doctrine that the West cannot compete against the very cheap labor of China, India and South-East Asia, manages to maintain the phobia between the peoples of the West and those of the developing countries, as workers in Western countries gradually loose all labor rights, while workers in developing countries want to conquer benefits that they couldn't afford for decades and which capitalism "promises" for a better life. The paradox is that, workers in most developing countries are working for starvation wages and under totally unacceptable conditions, waiting patiently for this "promise" of capitalism, since many of them in many regions, have experienced also at first hand the authoritarianism of the Soviet Communism.

The economic indexes in some developing countries are rising but most people suffer. Capitalism is trying to "redeem" the peoples of developing countries while simultaneously attempting to create new tanks of consumers in an effort to survive, but the financial capitalism-casino creates bubbles that burst much faster than the growth of the real economy around the world. Only two things can survive in this outrageous situation: banks and multinational corporations. Nation states are deconstructed gradually and most of the small-medium businesses - although faithful to capitalism - eventually disapear or at best redeemed, because it's impossible to withstand the competition.

But there also other areas of conflict which the new doctrine feeds and exploits. In the market's arena, capitalism-casino creates the illusion that everyone has the opportunity to participate equally. A significant part of the middle class is gambling in the stock markets and finally self-destructed or redeemed, but some never loose, because even when the financial storm comes, they are rescued by the governments with taxpayers' money. A characteristic example is the independent holders of the Greek government bonds that lost their money during the debt crisis, while the big Greek and European banks that are exposed, either secured their money through the terms of the new loan to the Greek state, or, rescued with bailout packages of billions.

The new doctrine exploits also the ideological polarization that grows in times of crisis. A characteristic example in Greece is the rise of the radical Left and extreme Nationalism. The rhetoric which is used by the anti-memorandum opposition parties regarding the debt crisis is almost identical. If someone could hide the logo in their announcements it would be hard to understand whether the announcement comes from a Left-wing, Right-wing or extreme Nationalist party. However, all these parties are giving absolute priority to defend their ideology and spend their effords in conflicts between them, putting, quite often, their struggle against the policies of troika's memorandum in second place. It is characteristic that, in a period of such a wild economic war, even the moderate parties (mainly SYRIZA and Indepentent Hellenes), have difficulties to meet and form a solid united front against the policies which eliminate the society.

Capitalism has succeeded in maximizing the middle class in the West, but now, it's most horrible mutation, exploits the large heterogeneity of the middle class - which was well hidden beneath a veil of fake prosperity - in order to survive and totally dominate. This new mutation of capitalism, either will be able to create new tanks of consumers and therefore survive through a global cultural totalitarianism, or, through its frenzied course, will eliminate the middle class, violate its "promise" for a better life, and eventually, destroy itself.

Neoliberal fascists continue the purge of the real Left and give us a small taste of what will happen under a Biden presidency

globinfo freexchange At about the time we were writing the article The time has come for neoliberalism to expose its true nature as a kind of refined fascism , the neoliberal regime did everything it could to justify us.  As the liberal elites proceed with the establishment of an increasingly authoritarian system to protect neoliberal order, the purge of real Leftists from key positions should be expected and considered almost certain.   Latest victims of the purge are two important figures in politics and journalism: Jeremy Corbyn and Glenn Greenwald.    The level of neoliberal Blairite evilness in the Labour Party hit a new record. In an unprecedented move, the new leadership decided to get rid of Jeremy Corbyn. In a fascistic manner, the Blairite faction wasted no time and took advantage of the EHRC report to do what it had in mind in the first place: get rid of the party's Leftist faction once and for all.   And all this, despite the fact that Corbyn repeatedly appeared to be

The time has come for neoliberalism to expose its true nature as a kind of refined fascism

globinfo freexchange In an interesting interview, Afshin Rattansi spoke with William Robinson, author of The Global Police State . They discussed how capitalism's crises have fuelled the rise of the global police state. The drastic inequality and poverty that has become a theme of modern capitalism which necessitates the global police state. Also, whether there is class warfare on the poor and the growing industry of militarism and oppression.   As Robinson points out: The global police state has been on full display in the United States in the uprising that took place in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd. But the largest story here, of course, is the mega cities of the world. Not just the hot war zones such as in the middle east.     The mega cities of the world are now the theaters for this global police state. And it's where these inequalities are so incredibly acute. And so all of the panoply of what i'm referring to as global police state is unle

Liberal plutocrats win a critical battle with their Biden puppet in the capitalist civil war and Trump keeps helping them

globinfo freexchange The globalist faction of the US capital (primarily consisted by the liberal plutocracy ) had the chance to counterattack against the capitalists around Trump through Biden's recent victory, in the ongoing capitalist civil war .   Yet, despite the fact that Trump brought some serious trouble to the liberal capitalists, ironically, he came right on time to rescue them. He helped them escape from the dead end, after eight years of an utterly disappointing Obama administration.  At the time when the liberal capitalists ran out of tricks (and social movements were pushing for real change in the US), Trump came to their rescue. Suddenly, the Obama fraud was almost forgotten and all the progressives had to align with the liberal fraudsters in order to defeat the "creepy orange clown". After four years of anti-Trump liberal hysteria and a pandemic nightmare that also came right on time, the liberal capitalists managed to put another puppet in power. And they

Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party suspension is about crushing the Left

Keir Starmer’s baseless decision to suspend former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn is a transparent attack on the Left. Labour members must fight it, or everything Corbyn stood for will depart with him.   by Ronan Burtenshaw   Yesterday, the EHRC report into Labour’s antisemitism controversy was released. Contrary to the doomsday predictions on both sides — that it would label the party institutionally antisemitic or personally indict Jeremy Corbyn and his team — it was a sober and earnest document that focused on procedural issues. By lunchtime, it seemed likely it would be broadly accepted across the Labour Party. The report found that Labour’s processes for handling antisemitism complaints were lacking. Its structures were too weak, they were subject to political pressures, under-resourced, and lacked proper guidance. Its staff had not had access to appropriate training. The most damning finding — of harassment — related to two cases where representatives of the party, former mayo

Confirmed: Biden never wanted the Green New Deal and now he has a perfect excuse to bury it

globinfo freexchange   In a revealing interview for the Greek radio-station Radio 98.4 , former Greek Minister of Finance and current DiEM25 leader, Yanis Varoufakis, spoke about the current situation in Greece under COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the result of the recent US general election.  The current Greek government ( one of the worst the last decades as it seems), receives a lot of negative criticism from the opposition and from the independent press in Greece, for the fact that it didn't take advantage of the first lock-down to reinforce Greece's public healthcare system.   It seems that during this second wave of the pandemic (and the second lock-down), the Greek government is losing control as the COVID-19 cases rise dramatically and the public healthcare system now operates close to its limits. Mitsotakis administration receives negative criticism for the fact it left the tourism sector open during the summer to protect specific private interests. Most importantly,

The Andrew Yang corporate media blackout: more evidence that the liberal elites hand-picked their unpopular puppet Kamala Harris

globinfo freexchange A former MSNBC whistleblower gave recently another first-hand confirmation about what many of us already knew: that the corporate media systematically exercise extreme forms of censorship on candidates outside the two-party system norm. As Ariana Pekary tweeted recently:                          On 4/25/19, I was told that we were never to pursue Andrew [Yang] for an interview on our show (along with several others). The list of candidates was dictated, but the reasons for allowing them or not were not explained.     Actually, I just reviewed my journal. On 4/25/19, I was told that we were never to pursue Andrew for an interview on our show (along with several others). The list of candidates was dictated, but the reasons for allowing them or not were not explained. — Ariana Pekary (@arianapekary) November 22, 2020   It would be interesting to also learn who these "several others" (Pekary mentioned in her tweet) are, but her revelation still has some sig

Labour ‘anti-Semitism’ report exposes real ‘political interference’

Jonathan Cook dissects the investigation by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission into the U.K. Labour Party.  by Jonathan Cook Part 1 I recently published in Middle East Eye a detailed analysis of last week’s report by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission into the question of whether the U.K. Labour Party had an especial anti-Semitism problem. (You can read a slightly fuller version of that article on my website.) In the piece, I reached two main conclusions. First, the commission’s headline verdict — though you would never know it from reading the media’s coverage — was that no case was found that Labour suffered from “ institutional anti-Semitism. ” That, however, was precisely the claim that had been made by groups like the Jewish Labour Movement, the Campaign Against Antisemitism, the Board of Deputies and prominent rabbis such as Ephraim Mirvis. Their claims were amplified by Jewish media outlets such as The Jewish Chronicle and individual journalists such as Jonatha

Anti-capitalist chronicles: The essence of a capitalist society

Much can be learned from China and repurposed to gain a much more sophisticated understanding of how to manage capital in its dying days and work towards the creation of a communist future.
